Kırşehir Yusuf Demir Bilim ve Sanat Merkezi is an art and science center for gifted learners and a special education institution, related to the Ministry of National Education. It was founded in the purpose of making with the learners gifted and specialized abilities aware of their individual abilities and making them use their capacities at utmost by enhancing their capacity.Kırşehir Yusuf Demir Bilim ve Sanat Merkezi was opened in 2005-2006 educational year, gives education to the learners who have been accepted to the center as a result of a general ability and IQ tests. It provides education under circumstances open to every environmental condition, multi-purposed, efficient to cooperate both in social and psychological aspects in a motivating way. Kırşehir Yusuf Demir Bilim ve Sanat Merkezi consists of 363 learners and 24 teachers in total.The period and the duration of the education are determined in terms of the interests, abilities and needs of the students.The purpose of Kırşehir Yusuf Demir Bilim ve Sanat Merkezi is to grow up individuals who are adaptive and devoted to Atatürk’s principles and revolutions, who are aware of their abilities, and who can connect scientific-thinking and behaviors with aesthetic values, who can develop and offer new thoughts, technical discoveries and modern tools, who can develop projects related to meeting various needs and solving problems and who aim to use their creativity and abilities to contribute to the development of the country with a national and societal grasp in accordance with the purposes and basic principles of the Turkish National Education. Mentally or physically disabled students are noticed easily in the society and there are several solutions for education of these students. The same situation is true for gifted and talented pupils because these pupils are also need special education, too. Gifted and talented students have several characteristics that make them different from regular students and that is why they needpersonalized special education in our institution. Our vision is being a modern, respected, preferential and contemporary institution using technological equipment, educating creative personalities and being the cultural centre in our environment.We have science,biology,chemist,physics laboratories, ICT laboratory,math, music, art, English language teaching , mother tongue teaching,social science teaching rooms, drama and chess rooms that are equipped with modern technology and ICT. It is given great consideration to Project,ICT and student-based education in our institution .Our pupils are given chance to use all the technology our institution have. The institution is located in the center and the students can easily come to center after their schools. As Kırşehir Yusuf Demir Bilim ve Sanat Merkezi, we are aware how important it is to learn more than one foreign language for the future of our pupils and country throughout the process of integration with the European Union. Therefore, in teaching foreign languages, especially English, we are trying to apply the standards wit EU.In our institution, we start teaching English in the age group of 8 and continue until17 inthis way, we are giving our students the opportunity to learn a foreign language in the most convenient period. Our institution has always managed to be on the agenda with the high achievements our students had in exams at their schools, both city-wide and nation-wide. We use computers to support English Language learning so that our students do not only develop their computer skills but they also increase their interest in learning foreign languages. Throughout the Primary Education process, we aim to improve our students´ listening, reading, speaking and writing skills in English. We are also trying to add variety to our teaching and learning process by recognizing our students in every possible way and taking learning styles and multiple intelligences into consideration.That´s why we often use different and modern teaching styles, multiple intelligences approaches story telling, TPR and topic based teaching techniques in English Language teaching.
